Guidelines for RiverSedge
Fiction Guidelines:
RiverSedge, a journal of Arts & Literature, seeks quality mainstream literary and experimental fiction, emphasizing that prose which has a regional Southwestern flavor or locale, but not excluding voices from other areas. Characters should be memorable and plots believable within the story's setting and context.
Our audience is educated and largely academic, but we are interested in work that transcends the campus and explores the real world in language and contexts accessible to lay readers.
Because of limited space, stories should not exceed 3000 words or less. Payment is in two copies upon publication. Short biographical sketch should accompany submission.
Submissions should be accompanied by SASE, or clear instructions not to return. Simultaneous submissions should be identified, although they are not discouraged. Computer disks in Macintosh format preferred.
Notification time is usually within 3 to 4 months, but may be sooner.
Poetry Guidelines:
RiverSedge, a journal of Art & Literature, seeks quality mainstream literacy and experimental poetry, emphasizing regional Southwestern flavor or locale, but not excluding voices from other areas. Any variety is welcomed, although most of the poetry we print is modern free verse. There are really no limitations on themes, topics or language.
Our audience is educated and largely academic, but we are interested in, work that transcends the campus and explores the real world in language and contexts accessible to lay readers. Poetry should be foolishly simple, but divinely insightful.
Because of limited space, poems of 25 or fewer lines are preferable, although longer ones are used on occasion, since quality and interest are more important than length.
