GALLERY
A Student Literary-Arts Magazine

Fact Sheet

GALLERY is an award-winning student literary-arts magazine, produced every Spring semester since 1980 through the English Department at The University of Texas-Pan American. It is published as a class project by the students enrolled in English 3334, and accepts submissions from all students presently enrolled at the University.


GALLERY is funded by Student Service Fees and by generous donations from our many sponsors and patrons, both faculty and community members. The printing of the magazine is done by the University Print Shop and all production, design, and selection of manuscripts is done by students with the technical assistance of the UT-Pan American Press, and the assistance of professional designer Frank Manuella from the Art Department who has retired and has been succeeded by Edwin Cuenco in that capacity.

Some principal facts about the magazine are as follows:

      •GALLERY has been in continuous publication since 1980.
      •Published every Spring semester by the students of Eng.3334.
      •The current cover price is five dollars.
      •The current cost of production is approximately eight dollars.
      •400 copies are printed every Spring.
      •Students enrolled in English 3334 are the editorial staff members.
      •The faculty advisor is the professor in charge of the course.
      •All students share the responsibility of selection and production.
      •The editorial staff meets twice a week during class periods.
      •GALLERY serves a student body of over 13,000 students.
      •Any student enrolled in the University may submit work to GALLERY.
      •Over 600 submissions were received during each of the past two years.
      •GALLERY prints approximately 100 pages of student art and writing.
      •Decisions on what goes in the magazine are made by students and approved by the advisor.
      •All type-setting and magazine design is done by student staff members.
      •Each year our goal is to improve upon the previous edition.
      •GALLERY office is located in Lamar Bldg., Room 9A, Tel. 381-3638.

•In addition, GALLERY is judged by independent University faculty, who award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes for Poetry, Prose, Art, and Photography.
•A GALLERY Reception is held in the COAS Art Gallery at the end of the semester when award winners are announced and receive their certificates presented by various University officials.
